UPS Workers Surprise Teen Colleague Who Walks 10 Miles To Work

Teen who walked 17 miles to and from work to support sick mom gets amazing gift

Impressed by his work ethic, Taylor's co-workers chose to surprise him with the ultimate gift.

Derrick Taylor normally wakes up in the middle of the night to begin his five-mile walk to his 4 a.m. shift at the UPS center in Oxford, Alabama. "He makes me emotional", a co-worker stated in the video.

Employees at the facility were impressed by Taylor's work ethic and pooled money together in order to raise $1,100 so they could surprise Taylor with the Jeep Cherokee. "He makes me emotional", one of Taylor's co-workers says in the video as Taylor wipes his own tears away with his sleeve.

"That day when I came in I got dropped off", Taylor told Global News.

Eventually, with the company gathered around and Steen filming, fellow co-worker J.D. Ward - who Steen credits for coming up with the idea to buy a vehicle for Taylor in the first place - presented Taylor with his new ride. Taylor said he and his mom have something in the works to thank his co-workers.

Derrick had been working at the company for more than a year when his colleagues stepped in with a life-changing gift, and the presentation was captured on camera. "I never thought those people cared that much, but I was ecstatic", Taylor told the New York Post. "No one had ever done anything like that for me so it made me cry and I'm not really the type to show my emotions".

"It was a great feeling".

Taylor has been working since he was 14 to support his family - and this auto has given him a glimpse of his future.

The young man was greatly touched by the gesture.

"I wanna move up at UPS and become a driver and with the money I make as a driver I want to invest into something profitable".
