Solange Points Out How Grammys Fail Black Artists After Sister Beyoncé's Snub

While accepting the Grammy Award for album of the year for "25" on Sunday night, the singer first gushed over fellow nominee Beyoncé, then turned to Simon, who was standing for her.

Adele, to her credit, is a blockbuster star, a gracious victor, and now a history-maker: she joins Taylor Swift as the only two women to win the Album of the Year trophy twice.

"And so attractive and soul bearing and we all got to see another side of you that you don't always let us see, and we appreciate that". We got to see another side to you that you don't always let us see, and we appreciate that, and all us artists here who adore you. "I love you, I always have and always will".

After her last year's Grammy performance was dampened by an unfortunate technical glitch, Adele returned to the Grammy stage-stronger and better than ever.

Beyonce was among the competition for all three Grammys. Pregnant Beyonce delivered an empowering performance while Bruno Mars brought Prince back to life alongside the late icon's contemporaries Morris Day and The Time.

But before Adele's big wins were declared, it was Beyonce time.

Even though Beyoncé lost the Album of the Year Grammy to Adele, it can't be denied that the execution of the original film and the slow rollout of videos over the last year has been flawless. Midway through her somber version of his song "Fastlove", she abruptly stopped, asking to start over again: "I can't mess this up for him", she said.

Straight from her Internet-breaking pregnancy announcement, Beyonce leads the pack with nine nominations for "Lemonade".

More than 13,000 music professionals in the Recording Academy voted to determine winners of the Grammys on Sunday, with other key winners including Sturgill Simpson's A Sailor's Guide To Earth for best country album and Cage The Elephant's Tell Me I'm Pretty for best rock album.

Adele beat stiff competition from music heavyweights like Beyonce and Rihanna, as well as Twenty One Pilots and Grammy Awards newcomer Lukas Graham.

In the 59-year history of the Grammys, only 10 black artists have won album of the year - something that has raised urgent questions about the show's honouring process.

Recording artist Adele, victor of Album of the Year for '25, ' speaks onstage during The 59th GRAMMY Awards at STAPLES Center on February 12, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.
