Lenovo Launches the Miix 720, Its Reinvented Microsoft Surface Killer

Today, Lenovo took the wraps off the Miix 720, it reinvented Microsoft Surface killer that can play the role of a tablet or a laptop using the built-in kickstand and the detachable keyboard.

For 2-in-1 users who love good stylus support, the Mixx 720's biggest upgrade is its new Active Pen 2, which features twice the pressure sensitivity of the old stylus for a whopping total of 4,096 levels of sensitivity. In addition to featuring one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port, the product also features a single Type-C USB connection, but unfortunately, it does not support the Thunderbolt 3 interface. The Miix 720 also boasts a nifty kickstand with dual hinges that offer a smooth action, the company claims.

The Lenovo's 12-inch screen is smaller than the 12.3-inch screen on the Surface Pro 4 but displays images at a higher resolution.

It's 14.6mm thick with the keyboard attached and weighs 1.1kg, although the tablet on its own is just 8.9mm and weighs 780g.

It has a 1-megapixel front camera with infrared, allowing users to log into Windows PCs via face recognition. The tablet also has a 5-megapixel rear camera. Lenovo's commitment to creating smarter pens is based in large part on a growing body of research demonstrating that digital pens are better suited to intrinsic human cognition, including conceptualizing, prototyping, sketching, memorizing, and good old-fashioned brainstorming. When it comes to the processor, Kaby Lake is on the menu (up to Core i7), with integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics 620) and up to 16GB of 1866MHz system memory. Other ports include one USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, microSD slot and an audio jack. The notebook will be out in February with prices starting at $1,349 (around £1,100, AU$1,870). It also sports Intel's latest processor lineup, along with a full set of USB ports for decent levels of expansion. It's powered by a 41 WHr battery, which Lenovo says should last eight hours. The keyboard also has the backlight to make your life easier in the dark. The Active Pen 2 will be available in February for $59.99 United States dollars.
