The Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association, which led the strike, said the protest was a "success".

Ola and Uber drivers gave the city a bitter New Year gift on Saturday by staying off the streets and prompting the cab aggregators to revive the surge pricing system that was withdrawn post demonetisation. According to the association president Syed Nizamuddin, there were almost 60,000 cabs operating under Ola and Uber in the city.

Those who ventured out in cabs and taxis were forcibly stopped by protesting drivers at many locations in the city. However, he alleged that the Uber and Ola managements were trying to ply some cabs by illegally changing their number plates from "Yellow" to "White". He also claimed that aggregators launched special schemes with incentives to lure drivers to work on New Year eve and New Year day when the demand for cabs is expected to be high but drivers will continue their strike.

Auto drivers demanded not to take new cars into vehicle pool when Ola and Uber are unable to give business to old Auto itself.

"We demand that new cabs and leased cars should not be added to the list unless the existing cars are provided with a guaranteed number of bookings everyday", Shiva says. "We are being asked to make a minimum of three trips during peak hours".

"When such a situation happens, and we go to the police station to book a complaint, we hardly have any details about the customers".

"We also want our rights as drivers".
