Trump inaugural to include prayers from 'prosperity preachers'

Among those included on the list are leading evangelist Franklin Graham, Florida-based televangelist Paula White and Hispanic evangelical preacher Samuel Rodriguez.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Wednesday that White would be one of several faith leaders participating in the swearing-in ceremony on January 20, including Archbishop Timothy Dolan of NY and the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.

White is the second woman ever chosen to pray at an inauguration, and the first female clergy member to participate: Obama tapped the first female prayer leader in 2013 when he asked Myrlie Evers-Williams, a lay person and the widow of civil rights leader Medgar Evers, to pray at his second swearing-in.

Graham, who rallied Christian voters around the country this year over the issue of appointees to the U.S. Supreme Court, has credited God for Trump's win over Hillary Clinton. Rodriguez called participating in the inaugural "a patriotic honor" and "a sacred duty". "I am very thankful that prayer and reading from God's Holy Word will be a part of this important ceremony as the world watches".

After a phone call from the businessman, White traveled to NY, sat down with Trump and began a "14 year conversation about God and love and a plethora of things", she told the news station. White is on her third marriage and she is Donald Trump's favorite preacher. I know the strong leader he is. "Let us begin now to pray for our new president and his administration, and imagine together a bright future for our exceptional nation".

White, the senior pastor of the New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka since 2012, has been one of Trump's biggest supporters in the Christian community, telling rallygoers at UCF in March, "I found out that he loved God". She assembled Trump's evangelical advisory committee while he was running for office, and she now runs his evangelical advisory board.

White spoke with The Christian Post about Trump's faith before the Republican National Convention. Like Trump, White is also an accomplished con artist. The Daily Beast criticized her for "shady fundraising practices", which was investigated by the Senate in 2007.

So who is Paula White, and why is everyone talking Trump's pick?

"Paula White is a charlatan and recognized as a heretic by every orthodox Christian, of whatever tribe", said Russell Moore, of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and an outspoken Trump critic. "Prosperity-gospel preachers teach that God wants people to be rich, and that he makes them wealthy as a sign of his blessing and favor; the richer you are, the more God loves you".
