Cam Newton's pick for NFL MVP? Raiders' Derek Carr

The Raiders are mentally tough, and have the next man up mentality embedded into their brains like most other teams, but this hole will be much tougher to fill than that of any other position on the field.

"So that's kind of where we are". His team needs him.

The Oakland Raiders took down the Indianapolis Colts with the Black Hole in attendance to notch their first 12-win season in 16 years, an impressive feat that was paired with what could be an insurmountable loss.

A loss by the Raiders coupled with a victory by the Chiefs would allow Kansas City to take the division and drop Oakland to the No. 5 seed, meaning a wild-card weekend matchup against AFC South victor Houston.

The Raiders believed enough in McGloin to place a second-round tender on him as a restricted free agent this past offseason, but he has had little time on the field since his rookie season in 2013. Oakland can clinch the No. 2 seed with a win at Denver, and it can move to No. 1 if New England, a 9½-point favorite, loses at Miami.

The Raiders have won eight of their last nine games, but must now finish the season without quarterback Derek Carr. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave eliminated play-action passes because of Carr's finger injury, but that aspect of the offense is back in play with McGloin. Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree are playmaking receivers. The Raiders have won 5 of 6 to stay atop the division while the Broncos have lost 4 of 6 and are out of playoff contention. "We'll see Sunday. Hopefully we walk away with a win and get to the offseason in the right direction".

Sunday isn't just an opportunity to prevent Oakland from winning the AFC West, but it also serves as Siemian's last chance to impress the coaching staff and front office heading into the offseason. I feel for them. Siemian is slated to start Sunday, but Lynch will play. He's done a lot of good things this year.

Those are the players that we are going to want on this roster in the coming seasons. I want him to get the Kansas City taste out of his mouth. "I'm preparing both and you'll see them both in the game". Considering the severity of the injury and the fact that it ruined his chance to lead the team for the Super Bowl, it's kind of incredible to see him hold it all together.

"That definitely should (anger) the D-line and linebackers and everybody up front to be able to know that they could pound us", cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said.

While McGloin has thrown just 55 passes since making six starts late that year and Carr was mentioned as a possible MVP candidate with 28 TD passes, 3,933 yards passing and only six interceptions this season, the Raiders don't expect much to change with how the offense is run.

Denver officially ruled out two potential starters because of injury Friday - safety T.J. Ward (concussion) and defensive end Derek Wolfe (neck).
