Seattle Seahawks Richard Sherman: 'You're going to miss me when I'm gone'

Richard Sherman said it's a privilege for the media to get to hear from him each week in a press conference

Covered the Philadelphia Eagles for Philadelphia Magazine and from 2008 to 2015.

The Seattle Seahawks cornerback declined to hold his weekly press conference on Wednesday and threatened to stop holding them altogether, calling his availability to the media "a privilege".

"I'm just going to make sure that people, you know, it's a privilege to have me up there". "It's a privilege, for me to go up there, you know". In the future, Sherman's situation will be handled externally, and publicly, if he refuses to answer questions from reporters. After that news conference, he told a reporter he would ruin his career and have his credential revoked, before later apologizing. It's surely worth noting that the small gathering did not include 710 AM ESPN host Jim Moore, with whom Sherman had a dust-up last week over his sideline argument with Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

You can take that to mean he was indeed reprimanded or sanctioned in some way by the team or by Carroll - and that Sherman and Carroll don't think it is any of our business.

"I thought he would", Carroll said.

As for any punishments, Carroll said Sherman's behavior would be handled internally, and Sherman did not elaborate.

The decision by the 6th year pro out of Stanford, seems to be a follow-up to a rather contentious press conference at team headquarters last week.

"Did you see me get punished?" "So, already asked, answered, so you've got the answer to that one, right?"

Sherman has captured the headlines the last couple of weeks, and not for leading the league in interceptions. Seattle ended up losing, 34-31. "Trying to make sure that we keep bringing the young guys along and there are a lot of young guys on this team and as we're going down the stretch here, we need to help them understand what's expected and how they should deal with what appears to be the mounting issues as you get to the end of the season". "And it wasn't even a factor".

Sherman said this meeting, like the others, was initiated by Carroll. His comments at the time also left the impression that he had considered some sort of disciplinary action before the meeting with Sherman convinced him that it wasn't necessary. "I just think that, like he said, you guys got after him pretty good and it got to him a little bit". "We have a kumbuya meeting just about every year, so it was the same theme of it".

"It happens every year at different times".

He said it happened in 2012 after a 24-21 loss at Miami.

Asked where he thinks the team is at the moment in terms of the locker room, Sherman said "same place we always are".

The next such meeting came after the Seahawks traded wide receiver Percy Harvin in the middle of a season, after locker-room issues in 2014. It happened after that.
