Asus' latest Chromebook appears online for $499, but quickly pulled

The Asus Chromebook Flip is also the first one to gain access to the Google Play Store from the built-in Chrome OS to download Android apps. But now, Asus seems to prepare to launch a premium Chromebook model.

For a brief moment yesterday, it looked as if Asus had a new Chromebook ready for us to check out in time for the New Year. According to a Newegg listing spotted by ChromeUnboxed and then quickly pulled down, the ASUS C302CA is a 12.5-inch, 1080p touchscreen Chromebook with a thin aluminum chassis, reversible display and Intel m3 processor. Could one of those USB-C ports actually be used to charge up the device? The material of the body will grant sturdiness to the Asus Chromebook C302CA and its 360-degree hinge. The price hasn't been confirmed, and Newegg took down the listing shortly after it was posted. NewEgg has accidentally leaked the full specs and other relevant information about the new ASUS laptop.

The Asus C302CA looks like a previous-generation Macbook Pro.

If the Asus Chromebook C302CA could indeed have an option for 8 GB of RAM, its specifications and expandable memory could allow it to challenge Apple's MacBook. While the initial listing title on Best Buy's website for this Chromebook model does not call this the Chromebook Flip 2, scrolling down the page just a bit past the gallery of images reveals that Best Buy does refer to it as the Chromebook Flip 2 in the description.

It is unclear when Asus will officially release the Asus Chromebook C302CA, but for Chrome Unboxed and a few users, they might be able to get their hands on the laptop early. Having said that, it remains to be seen whether the NewEgg listing had a typo in it, or was that just an entry level model of the Asus C302CA Chromebook with 8GB RAM models being the higher end variant that will also hit the market eventually.
